Former Oregon City girls basketball coach Kurt Guelsdorf will stay in the game, but at another level, as he’s taking a women’s basketball assistant coaching position with Clackamas Community College.

Oregon City decided a month ago not to renew Guelsdorf’s contract after a 15-year run at the school, where he won 355 games and three Class 6A state championships.

Guelsdorf wrote in an email to The Oregonian/OregonLive that he recently accepted a coaching position at CCC under head coach Jim Martineau.

Guelsdorf had looked into several high school openings but decided the travel commitment from his home in Oregon City would cut too deeply into family time. Guelsdorf has a basketball-playing daughter entering high school next fall, and coaching at Clackamas will allow him time to watch some of her games.

This past season, Oregon City won the Mt. Hood Conference title before losing in the second round of the 6A state playoffs.

Guelsdorf has been a head girls basketball coach for 21 years, including six at Gresham. He is 451-123 all-time, and his 451 wins rank No. 8 all-time among Oregon girls coaches.
